I enjoyed this a lot more than Reservoir Dogs. Injections of humour, a more interesting plot and great dialogue made it much more entertaining to me. However, I rate Happy Gilmore as my favourite film of all time, so what do I know?
A quick thought that caused me to re-edit this post: music. The soundtrack was great, and I'd hazard a subconscious guess that this is why I liked the film so much. I'd heard a Radio 4 feature with Quentin Tarantino recently, and he commented on the painstaking thought he put into selecting the music for certain scenes. It certainly showed, although having the memory of a goldfish I can't remember specific examples. This would be where my wannabe-critic tone ends!
I would never have chosen to watch this film (I once did, and didn't make it past Mia ODing because I was being a girl) but am glad I have, it was excellent. Further proof that my lack of film watching has been a travesty, and that forcing myself to catch up with the civillised world is the right thing to do.
Tarantino themes spotted so far: Plenty of smoking, casual racism, intense tension building, battles of attrition between injured people, black suit and tie combos. More to follow I presume!

Film 1: Reservoir Dogs
It begins! This all came about from having spent a Friday night in with no housemates, money, TV or internet. I even tried to listen to the Ashes, but that got rained off within 20 minutes. Perhaps it was a sign that I REALLY need to watch some decent films, and not just the first half of Anchorman over and over when boredom kicks in.
Thanks to a friend, I faced the interesting prospect of a Saturday night in with a Tarantino boxset. I was told (ordered?) to watch them in order, so stuck Reservoir Dogs in and spent the next hour and a bit engrossed, grossed, but really entertained. I clearly have been missing out despite protesting that I'm not into films, roll on Pulp Fiction!
